The Thrill of Eternity; Landscape in DNA
maquette and prototype
Codes are able to challenge material-temporality. This work uses DNA as a living example. The idea of ‘Arkwork’ was developed during an Arts Council funded Anthropocene residency and considered a future for art as pure information, where seeing is transcended by knowing. The work comprises concave microscope slides held within a double-glazed unit. At the centre of each slide is a speck of DNA collected from the landscape beyond the ‘window’. The concavity of the slides focuses a miniature image of that landscape. The principle is under development as an outdoor sculpture, “The Thrill of Eternity” after a statement by Cezanne.
