Oak, glass

The French Philosopher Maurice Merleau-Ponty famously remarks on the narcissism of all human perception, our tendency to project ourselves onto all that we see.
The oak frame to Merleau-Ponty’s Mirror is identical front and back and is its own mirror image. The transparent looking-glass gives no reflection but the foxing within it is bilaterally symmetrical and the viewer quickly finds that there are many faces other than their own.
