Paul Tuppeny 2019
Fabricated during the Force of Nature Residency, the work fixes a landscape as information rather than as a view; seeing is transcended by knowing.
The work discusses the role of an artwork when the species for whom it was conceived no longer exists.
This is a beautiful piece that is difficult to appreciate from photographs. It is constructed in the manner of a sealed double-glazed window. Between the panes, the concave microscope slides (which contain the DNA samples) act as lenses focusing the view beyond.
