Carry Me Home (In Pieces) 2017

Three glazed cases which correspond to the component parts of the human form are presented horizontally on transparent glass supports. The larger central box houses a wool jumper eaten by pests. Through the holes an illuminated sky can be seen. The case at the head accommodates a categorised collection of antique moth specimens suspended in flight on metal rods. That at the foot contains four rocks.

The work asks us to review our relationship with the processes that surround us and are part of us with the objective of (in the words of the political theorist, Jane Bennett in the conclusion of her book Vibrant Matter) “chastening [our] fantasies of human mastery, highlight[ing] the common materiality of all that is…and reshap[ing] the self and its interests”.
